Local Democracy

Kootenay residents must let decision makers know that they want the fate of the Jumbo Valley decided openly – and locally.

For the past 16 years Kootenay residents have consistently voiced strong opposition to attempts by speculative promoters to take the wild out of Jumbo and replace it with condominiums and resort development. This opposition spans the social spectrum — including local outdoor enthusiasts of all recreational interests.

Despite a promise from the Provincial Government that the ultimate sign off on this proposal would be left to the Regional District of East Kootenay, a piece of new provincial legislation (Bill 11) threatens to compromise that.

We, the voters of East Kootenay, must insist that our elected Regional Directors choose local democracy over secretive scheming between absentee land speculators and non-resident politicians.
